Community Outreach Program
The Community Outreach Program is directed toward our local youth. Designed towards the Elementary Schools in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida. Primarily set up for fourth graders and fifth graders. This is a teaching and educational tool used to support local school teachers and students. A General Geology class is presented that covers the three basic Rock types and how they were formed. Plus details about how Florida was formed and the many different rocks that can be found in our state.
The class is usually about one hour long. Students are encouraged to ask questions. There are many colorful mineral and rock specimens that are used for display and demonstration. The instructor typically passes out polished stones as prizes for students that answer questions correctly.
This program serves: All Scouts (Cub, Boy, & Girl) and displays for local libraries that request Gem and Mineral cases for public viewing.
